Meet Tacuma
& Dr. Michelle
We're Tacuma & Dr. Michelle Johnson. We have a personal mission statement that we apply to all of our work: “We equip and empower people with the structure, strategy & Spirit to WIN--to the glory of God.”
We believe three things about winning: 1) You cannot win without God; 2) You cannot win without a spiritual family; and 3) Winning means something different to each of us. Growing in these areas is a life-long process, and we are doing it together at A PEOPLE OF GOD.
Tacuma is also author of Grandmama's Soul and Grandaddy's Faith: (Re)-Claiming Black Christian Mysticism. In this book, he begins to lay out his strategy for Black and indigenous people to sustain intergenerational blessings, break generational curses, and pass down the richness of our foreparents' spiritual resources to the next generations. You can get the book and accompanying resources here.
In addition to A PEOPLE, Michelle and I co-founded The Point College Prep, a K-12 public charter school in North Carolina in 2012 which is free to all students. The school has grown to have over 900 students and over 100 full-time employees on a $13 million campus with three buildings totalling over 130,000 sq ft. In fact, our school is the largest black-owned employer in the region. In this way, we are impacting and touching thousands of lives and families through education, through job creation, and through entrepreneurship. You can learn more about this phenomenal school here.
Most importantly, Tacuma and Michelle are the glowing parents of two extraordinary daughters, Mikhayah and Saraiyah, who keepthem busy and blessed.
